FUTURE CAREER GOALS

My future career goals include getting into a four-year college or university that has programs which include computer science. This goal allows me to pursue jobs that range from NASA to Microsoft. My goal in to design and create programs that could help to make the world work a little bit easier and more efficient.

DESCRIPTION OF SCHOOL

Kamiak High School is a large-scale high school that houses more than 2000 students. This school hosts many AP classes and is known for its maths and science programs. The math program has won multiple awards through its mathematics club, and the science program has gotten recognition through the STEM club. Kamiak is also a diverse school with people that are there from multiple religions and cultures.

WHAT ORIGINALLY MADE YOU INTERESTED IN THIS PROJECT?

I felt like some sort of change needed to be done in the future to encourage people to change their current pathway. The world is becoming a place where people think that if something is going wrong, or if anything happens, there is a possible back-up in Mars. There is an illiteracy that comes up when referring to an ideal area and ideal ground to grow food and I felt like learning about those types of areas will make me become more of a citizen scientist.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BRING THIS PROJECT TO YOUR SCHOOL/COMMUNITY? WHAT ARE YOUR OBJECTIVES?

I would want to try to educate people about how good aquaponics/hydroponics is for the environment and for the future of the world. There are multiple reasons why my school (which is where I want to carry out my plan) should switch to a hydroponics system, and I believe that with the addition of a small aquaponics/hydroponics system, the administrative staff would realize that and would try to add that into our school’s greenhouse.

WHAT CURRENT CLUBS ARE AVAILABLE? WHAT TEACHERS / COURSES COULD INTEGRATE THIS PROJECT?

There are no clubs or courses available at Kamiak. I could inform teachers and administrative staff members about the ProjectFeed1010 program and the benefits of teaching the a(n) aquaponics/hydroponics program in their classroom so that there would be an initiative in place to try to encourage students to make their own system.

WHAT IS YOUR PLAN?

My plan consists of setting up an aquaponics system with the help of my old biology teacher. I would test the following experimental question: “Would a plant grow better without artificial light.” I would compare the results to the group of people with the same hydroponics system and make my conclusion based on the results of my experiment.

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU THINK YOU WILL FACE IN GETTING THIS PROJECT SET UP?

There are a few challenges that I may face in the creation of the system. The funding and administrative approval would create a challenge that I must overcome to start my experiment and promote aquaponics/hydroponics at my school.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
